Area Guide: Streatham (SW16) and Streatham Hill (SW2)
Streatham means "the hamlet on the street" and refers to the London to Brighton Way, a Roman Road from the capital Londinium to the coast near Portslade. Streatham now provides something for everyone, with middle class families occupying houses in leafy streets that fetch over £500,000, while a large number of migrant workers have been attracted to the area as a result of the affordable rental prices and good transport connections.
Streatham falls within the London Borough of Lambeth and is divided by Streatham High Road which runs from North to South, creating what is locally believed to be the longest high street in the whole of the United Kingdom!
Streatham Hill has seen lots of change over the past few years and is now home to a Sainsburys Local, a Tesco Express, and a Fitness First gym and swimming pool, as well as private bowls, tennis and squash clubs.
